I was hired to conceive, create and produce a number of pieces for three new feature-length LOTR documentaries including a Comic-Con promo, 12 behind-the-scenes modules, and 2 promo spots.
When the first Lord of the Rings film came out, I remember wishing I could have worked on it. Every aspect of the film was so well done and put Peter Jackson and WETA workshop on the map with their masterful models, props, costume design, and seamless blend of special effects, visual and in-camera effects. Little did I know this would be my first solo project under my own banner; a dream come true.
Project Background Director Peter Jackson’s friend Costa Botes was allowed unprecedented access during the filming of all three Lord of the Rings films. The studio contracted with Costa to produce three feature-length documentaries on the making of each film. I was hired to create a series of a dozen behind-the-scenes modules, promo spots, and a piece to be shown at Comic-Con that year, which was a big hit. The campaign theme was built around the idea of content created "for the fans, by the fans" as my team was just as excited and passionate about being a part of these films as I was.
The Comic-Con piece played extremely well. Watched the latest edit. Loved it! I’m really loving the tags. The Gandalf one is outstanding—wonderful! The style is spot on. Love the graphics, love the tone.
